A separate registration process (and fees) will be announced in April for those parents and players interested in participating in Little League "all-star" post season tournaments. Note that players have to meet minimum play requirements during the regular season to be eligible for All Stars. Please reach out to the league board or past participants to get a better understanding of the time commitment and expectations involved in these tournaments (often beginning June 1).
Each year our local league chooses a Tournament Team (or “All Stars”) of 10-12-year-olds from within the Major division to represent our league at the AZ District 6 tournament and compete against other local Scottsdale area little leagues. Post season "All Star" Tournament opportunities are also available for players league-age 8-10 and 9-11. (There's also an opportunity for our younger players to play in a post-season ("TOPs") tournament - see below.)
The District 6 "10U" and "11U" tournaments will once again be hosted by Arcadia LL at Ingleside Middle School fields. The tournaments are expected to begin Sat., June 13, 2020 and last no longer than one week. The District 6 "12U" tournament will once again be hosted by Mountain View LL at Scottsdale Ranch Park fields (typically begins around June 17 and ends no later than July 3), but dates have not been announced for 2020).
The "12U All Stars" are typically selected by a vote from the players' peers and coaches in early May, with some additional roster spots chosen by the All Star coaches. The "11U" and "10U" team's rosters are selected by MRLL's All Star coaches each year. All team rosters are announced on this website on June 1st each year per Little League rules. Practice for the "11U" and "10U" teams typically begins right away after rosters are announced.
Participation on these teams requires a significant commitment of time by the players and families involved in June practices and games and other team events. If the All Star team is successful at the District 6 tournament held in June, players will be expected to be available for practices and the state tournament for their respective age division held in July. Arizona State Little League has yet to announce the locations and start dates for all of the 2020 Little League State Tournaments, but approximate start dates of the tournaments are as follows:
8-10 YO | Hosted by District __ | ________, AZ | Estimated Start Date: 7/11
9-11 YO | Hosted by District __ | ________, AZ | Estimated Start Date: 7/11
Little League ("12U") | Hosted by District ___ | __________, AZ | Estimated Start Date: 7/13
***Typically all three state tournaments are of the double elimination format, but sometimes may involve "pool play" depending upon the number of teams entered into the state tournament.
Only the 12U Majors division level state winners can advance further, as the 10U and 11U teams culminate at the state tournament level.
The winners of the state Little League (Major/12U) Division advance to represent Arizona in the West Regional held each year in San Bernadino, CA (Aug 9-16th). The culmination of the International Tournament is the Little League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the world held in Williamsport, PA (and televised on ESPN). This year's tournament will be held August 20-30, 2020.
“Each of our Little League World Series events provide a memorable experience for the players, parents, volunteers, and families who come to visit from all around the globe,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “These tournaments spotlight the hard work and dedication that can be found at local Little League programs in thousands of communities throughout the year, and we are looking forward to the start of another great Little League season in 2019.”
