Opening Day 2023 was a whole parade of cuteness! And that is exactly what we started with. Our Tee Ballers led MRLL’s thirty teams from the xeriscape garden to Field 5 to start the day. There were posters, banners, and balloons, oh my! Plus, plenty of glitter and smiles.
Then, Nate and Holden Durkin played the National Anthem on guitar. It was a phenomenal performance! After opening ceremonies, they stuck around to play some original music and covers. We hope they will be willing to play for us at another event!
After the anthem, Landon Tolerico led us through the Pledge of Allegiance and Little League Pledge. Our baseball players did an excellent job of reciting along!
Finally, following the introduction of board members and volunteers, we had our first pitch ceremony. We kept the tradition we started last season going: two first pitches, one from a graduating twelve-year-old, followed by one from a Tee Baller to symbolize a passing of the torch.
Blake Hendren threw the first pitch to his dad and devoted MRLL coach, Cobey. Then, Juliet Brozina threw the second first pitch to her dad and fellow coach, Chris. Let me tell you–there was not a dry eye in the place. If you witnessed this magical moment firsthand, you know just how special it was for Blake, Juliet, and our entire Bulls community.
Of course, the best part of any OD is the baseball! For me, it was also a major highlight to be able to talk to so many of you following the opening ceremonies. We have such a fun, energetic, creative group of players, parents, and volunteers here in McCormick Ranch Little League. I am so proud to lead such a fantastic organization. Let’s play ball!
