McCormick Ranch Majors All Stars Goes 4-0 in Pool Play

McCormick Ranch Majors (“12U”) Goes 4-0 in Pool Play; Begins Championship Series Monday Night

The Bulls of McCormick Ranch LL continued their winning ways by winning their fourth of four pool play games in the AZ District 6 Little League “Majors” tournament (featuring kids ages 10-12 years old) on Saturday night.  The MRLL Bulls had already qualified for a spot in the upcoming championship series scheduled to begin on Monday, but they decided to close out their pool play in style and show off their offensive prowess with an 18-1 victory over East & South Scottsdale.

The Bulls got the scoring started in the top of the first inning when the red-hot Jax Breslo scored on a wild pitch after singling earlier in the inning.  Anthony Gilligan hit a two-out double, driving in Connor Huseth and Jack Milner who had reached via a hit and walk, respectively.

In the second inning MRLL extended their lead with a two-out rally.  Breslo, Andrew Nishida-Grimm, Anton Cuevas and Alex Bowen hit consecutive singles and pushed across three mor runs.

The Bulls evidently wanted to leave no doubt, as they put up 12 runs in the third on its way to a “15 run-rule” victory. The rally was started by consecutive singles from Everett Parker, Sam Cauley and Connor Radomski.  The offensive firepower was supplied by walks by Breslo, Nishida-Grimm, and Cuevas, singles by Bowen and Gilligan, doubles by Milner and Radomski, and a fielder's choice by Cuevas all pushing runners across home plate.  Cash Kelly and Cruz Colby also had hits in the inning.

In total, MRLL collected 18 hits. Breslo, Bowen, Gilligan, Radomski, and Kelly, all managed multiple hits for the Bulls in just three innings of work. Jax Breslo went 3-for-3 at the plate for the second game in a row to lead McCormick Ranch in hits.

Jack Milner took the win on the mound for the Bulls. The righthander went one and two-thirds innings, allowing one run on one hit and striking out three. Cash Kelly threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen, striking out two without allowing a base runner.

The championship series will be a best-of-three set of contests, played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (if necessary).  All games are scheduled at 7pm at Scottsdale Ranch Park.  We encourage all members of the MRLL community to turn out in support of all the players and coaches.
