CHAMPS !!! McCormick Ranch 12U All Stars Wins District 6 Championship !

The 12U All Stars defeated Arcadia 5-4 on Monday after taking the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning in a see-saw affair.  With the win, the Bulls won the District 6 championship series for the Little League (Majors) Division and completed a perfect run through the tournament.

Arcadia Little League got things started in the first inning. Austin Smith hustled for a double with two outs and eventually scored on a passed ball.  But the Bulls answered in their half of the inning after loading the bases, when Jack Lafflam drove in Dae-il Willis.

Arcadia again took the lead in the second inning after converting a walk, two wild pitches and a single into a run.  McCormick Ranch answered in the bottom of the third, plating two runs.  Willis singled and advanced on Noah Becker’s sacrifice bunt.  Jake Catalfio came through with an RBI single before Lafflam drove in Cade Huseth on a two-out double.

The all stars from Arcadia were intent on making Game 2 of the championship series much tighter affair than the first game.  They re-took the lead in the top of the fifth off a walk, a triple and a rare MRLL error; leaving the score at 4-3.  But the Bulls were not to be denied their banner.

Catalfio got things started with a double and scored on Devin Long’s single.  Truman Parker gave the Bulls the lead (and himself an early birthday gift) by driving in Long on a two-out single.

Catalfio entered the game as the Bulls’ closer, striking out the final two batters in a 1-2-3 inning, thus securing the win for the local nine.  Devin Long was on the mound to start for McCormick Ranch. He surrendered two runs on three hits over four innings, striking out two.  Jack Lafflam came on for an inning of relief, striking out two as well.

Anderson Kopp was on the pitcher's mound for Arcadia’s 12U All Stars. He allowed eight hits and five runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four.

Jack Lafflam and Jake Catalfio each managed two hits to lead McCormick Ranch’s 12U All Stars.

Manager Ward Huseth had this to say, “I want to thank everyone for the support of the team these past few weeks.  We’ve had so much fun coaching and spending time with the boys – everyone should be very proud.  I also want to commend our players.  They have put in so much time and effort – not just this June, but throughout the regular Spring season and in the off-season and even over the past two years.  They have also represented themselves, our families and our league so well.  I’m most proud of how they’ve exemplified our core values (WE > Me, We Compete, We Work Hard to PLAY Hard and We BELIEVE !!!).”

With the win last night, the 12u All Stars won a Little League Majors Division (i.e. 12U) District 6 championship for the first time since 2012 for McCormick Ranch.  And they are the first group from McCormick Ranch to win the D6 10u, 11u and 12u titles in consecutive years since 2009-2011.  They should be proud!

The state tournament is held in Kingman, AZ and begins July 15th. McCormick Ranch will face off against District 2 at 5:30 on July 15th in one of the first games of the tournament.  District 2 will be represented by a tough Litchfield Park team from the west side of Phoenix.  The state tournament is a double-elimination format and the entire tournament is supposed to last between July 15- 23rd at the latest (barring rainouts).  Follow the team on GameChanger and the state tournament website, or even plan a trip up north to see the kids play!
