First, a celebration: We are replacing the scoreboards at Cocopah! Yes, we have GameChanger to keep up with the action in our upper divisions, but there is definitely something to be said for just being able to look up at the scoreboard for some quick numbers. We are offering the opportunity to two local businesses to sponsor the scoreboards, one for Field 1 and one for Field 2. If you'd like your company's name on our scoreboards FOR LIFE, please email [email protected] to inquire.
Save the date: On February 21, MRLL will have a booth set up for the City of Scottsdale’s Super Sports Saturday. This event, held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Chaparral Park, will highlight the wide range of sports, fitness, and wellness opportunities available in Scottsdale, and will include food trucks, music, interactive activity zones, and more. We hope to see you there!
Thirdly, we are moving Opening Day up. We normally begin games the Saturday after the SUSD spring break, but with that break a week later this year, we didn’t want to wait! Opening Day 2026 (including Picture Day) will be March 7, with games continuing into the following week. We will then take spring break off, including the weekends at the beginning and end of that week. Games will resume on Tuesday, March 24.

Next, we are trying something new with The Bull’s Eye, our Cocopah snack bar. Each day there are games at Cocopah, volunteers from the teams playing on those days will run the snack bar. For example, on a Thursday, we have Minors and Majors games back to back. Two parents or older siblings from Coach Witzke’s Minors team would run the snack bar from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and then two volunteers from Coach Derr’s Majors team would take over from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Our snack bar manager will stock the snack bar and make sure volunteers have detailed instructions for their shift. We appreciate your help keeping our snack bar open! In particular, siblings of our baseball players–who are often lacking interest in watching the game–LOVE to be in the snack bar. :)
Finally, we are working on reviving our junior umpire program. Former MRLL players 12+ years old are welcome to sign up as a junior umpire for our Minors/Majors division. Junior umpires will receive training from one of MRLL’s regular professional umpires, Darcy, to serve in the field (once they turn 16, they can move behind the plate!). This training will take place on January 25 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at Cocopah. VP Derr will then add junior umpires to the Minors/Majors game schedule per their availability. If your kiddo is interested and you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out: [email protected].
We can’t wait to kick off another spring season. Go Bulls!
